“Life is too short for a full-time job!”

I have had this saying on a refrigerator magnet since graduating college in 1983, and it has traveled all over the country with me!  I consider owning A&M (since 1995) more of a lifestyle, never a job, and most days, I love coming into my home away from home.

I grew up in Overland Park and graduated from Shawnee Mission West and Pittsburg State University with biology and nursing degrees.  I worked in Knoxville, TN, plus several years with the Traveling Nurse Corps before settling back in Kansas City to work at KU Med Center and pursue a graduate degree.  Plans changed, and in 1995, my late husband Dave and I decided to open a retail shop, Armoires & More.  We knew nothing about retail or even furniture, but we loved owning our own business, and we strived to learn as much as possible.  I guess I loved furniture more than I realized because, after 25+ years, I’m still learning and enjoying it.

My goal for every client is for them to feel that they made a good choice when shopping with A&M.  We strive to find the perfect pieces for their home and not treat them as just a sales number.  We hope they feel comfortable referring their friends to us or visiting us again for future projects.  We want them to look at their purchases from A&M and think “this looks great” or “this is so comfortable”.  If that isn’t the case, we want the opportunity to make some changes and get it right!

I feel so privileged and blessed to work with such wonderful customers, local designers, manufacturer’s reps, and employees.  So many people have had a hand in this business and hopefully, they realize how much I appreciate them!  A&M wouldn’t be here without all of them.

Georgia Jones

Georgia grew up blocks from the ocean in Redondo Beach, California, but has called Kansas City home since she was 16 when she moved to Roeland Park, Kansas. She began her professional life assisting her then-husband Stephen Locke, a local artist making a name for himself in the Kansas City area, to establish and operate his photography studio, founded in 1985.  Nearly a decade was spent immersed in this world of artistic endeavors- along with the invaluable lessons of running a small business all while raising her family.

With a long-time passion for interior design, Georgia moved from the world of photography to forge a new career. She found a home for over 10 years with Norwalk Fine Furniture, where she enthusiastically dived into the world of home furnishings, honing her skills at creating comfortable and beautiful homes and forming long-lasting friendships along the way.

Georgia has spent the last 12 years at A&M Home, where she's amassed a loyal following of clients who know they can count on her genuine enthusiasm, seasoned experience, and down-to-earth nature to guide them toward making their homes beautiful, functional, and inspiring. With a deep understanding of home as a refuge as well as a place to reflect one's personal style and point of view, she hopes to create spaces that leave a lasting impression. When not working Georgia enjoys time spent with her family which includes twin daughters and four grandchildren, reading, and generally putzing around her home in Overland Park.

In your previous location I purchased a black console table and loved it. Returned a few years later. New location same friendly staff. Georgia poured her heart and soul into leading me to a new look, no pressure, lots of laughs, encouragement and a clever way of protecting me from making mistakes.

Karen Sanders

I have worked at A&M since 2013 and enjoy the daily variety. Every day brings something new; helping a client find the perfect piece of furniture, just that right fabric, unpacking accessories, or updating catalogs. Change is exciting; whether it’s big or small, our homes are our sanctuary, and we are privileged to help our clients through the process. Outside of work, I enjoy my family, walking my dog, reading, gardening, and I am a certified yoga instructor.
