UPCYCLING : LET'S GET CREATIVE
Up-cycling: to reuse discarded objects or material in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.
Lately, we have seen so many upcycling projects that we felt it was time to discuss and showcase them here on our blog page. We have also added a board to our Pinterest page for sharing inspiration, and if you want to share your own upcycling projects please feel free to tag us on social media so we can see and share those too!
If you are new to the upcycling trend don’t fret, we are here to help you understand and inspire. The whole concept of taking something you may already own, have found, or purchased from an antique sale, goodwill location or side of the street then transitioning it to something new for your space isn’t a new idea. We have been doing this for years but it hasn’t always been a mainstream idea. Now we seem to see it everywhere with creativity levels on high, and it’s not only fun but exciting and can be deemed somewhat of a green initiative.
Upcycling does stem from creativity. Thinking outside of the box is required but it is also rewarded. There are so many examples of traditional items being used for things you can’t even imagine. When you see a piece then have that “a-ha” moment and wonder, “why didn’t I think of that” you will understand. Here are a few items that inspired us so much that we absolutely had to share with all of you.
Oil drums turned into sinks. Who would have thought of this? After being cleaned up, painted and plumbing fixtures added they were ready to stand on their own in this public bathroom.
Who doesn’t love a unique plant stand? This converted nightstand brings a smile to our face. Look how bright and fun this idea is, and how easy!
Of course, we had to share this one, an old television that now operates as a pet bed! We love this level of creativity! That cat is living the “suite” or sweet life for certain. (see below for pic)
There are so many ways to be creative and enjoy upcycling. Taking the time to transform an old item into something new, showing it off in your home or office, then sharing its story can be satisfying and rewarding.
Take a look at the gallery below for inspiration and share your own experience in the comments section below! We can’t wait to see them!
